St. Patrick’s Day, Trivia, Surf Rock, + Local Food!

Townhouse Closed, Sunday, March 15

The RCMP are asking people to stay off the roads today, and as our head chef and several staff are living in the county this year, we’ve decided to close today. Very sorry to disappoint anyone, but your probably better off staying safe and cozy at home. But don’t worry! There is lots to look forward to this week, so mark your calendars now!

We’re looking forward to celebrating old St. Pat with authentic Irish food and music – and, as usual, we promise: NO GREEN BEER HERE!

We’ll kick things off with Happy Hour from 4-6, pints of the Granite Brewery’s Keefe’s Irish Stout on for $5, and we’ll be offering a special Irish menu until 9pm (see below). Jameson’s, Bushmills 10yo, & Kilbeggan will be well stocked, and desserts will be available until 11.

The Townhouse Session Band (the core of our Sunday night Irish sessions) will playing traditional Irish music (fiddles, flutes, whistles, guitar, banjo, bodhran, & pipes) from 7:30 on. There is talk of a bit of a singing session later in the evening, so brush up on your favourite Irish ballads and war songs!

Townhouse Trivia, Wed., Mar. 18

Chad & Sarah host the pub quiz this week.
Starts: 9pm sharp, entrance is free! Teams of 4
And free beer for the winners!
The trivia is always challenging, entertaining, and competitive – if you haven’t joined us yet, perhaps this should be the week you do!

Live Music Saturday, Mar. 21 – Urban Surf Kings

Mar 21, 9pm, $10 at the door

Urban Surf Kings Live in Hell

We’re very excited about our next show! Canada’s East Coast instrumental-nuts, the URBAN SURF KINGS, play surf music, 1960’s style. Think the beach blasts of Dick Dale, the leather jacket rumble of Link Wray, and the upbeat twang of The Ventures.

The 20-year-old trio features Rev Hank on surf guitar, Crash Flagg on surf bass, and Inky on traps. They are officially the longest running surf band in Canada, and they put on a heckuva show!

Also on Saturday –  the local food groups I’m involved with are hosting a public event!

Saturday, March 21st, 2015
10 am to 2:00 pm, St. James United Church, Antigonish, NS

Come hear our speakers and participate in the discussion! Get an update on the local food store initiative!

Alicia Lake, coordinator of the Cape Breton Local Food Hub pilot project
Christine Johnson, NS research project “Activating Change Together for Community Food Security.”

The Townhouse will be providing a locally sourced soup and home-made bread!

Whisky Galore! A Scotch Tasting at The Townhouse – SOLD OUT

Tuesday, March 24, 7:30pm

We’ve teamed up with Adam Morin for a guided tasting of six whiskeys, chosen for maximum diversity across different regions, styles, ages and casking types: Ledaig 10; Old Pulteney 12yo; Glenfiddich 15; Glenfarclas 105; Amrut Fusion, and Laphroaig 18yo.

Morin, “Single Malt Expert” at the NSLC, is an unredeemable CFA who came for love and stayed for the single malt. He has published several articles in Occasions on the topic, and is a History major at STFX.

Tickets are limited (SOLD OUT!), cost $40 + fees & taxes, and include 1 oz of each whiskey and a few nibbles.

Sorry if you didn’t get a ticket – I’ve got a feeling we’ll be doing this again before too long!

Finally – if you’ haven’t already, please note: The Townhouse will be closed from April 3 – 13th

We’ll miss you all, but we’re taking a short break to recharge for the spring season!
