Saturday: Local Food First!
Saturday, March 21, 10am – 2pm, St. James United Church
As many of you know, local food is a subject we are pretty passionate about here at The Townhouse. So we’re very pleased to invite you to join us tomorrow for an update on, and a chance to get involved with, a few converging local food projects: OurFoodStore.com, an online, multi-producer, multi-community CSA program, the exciting new Antigonish Regional FoodHub, The Kitchen Table Green Economics project, and a multi-year community Food Security study. For more on those projects, please see this week’s KTGE article in The Highland Heart. Our guest speakers are:
– Alicia Lake, coordinator of the Cape Breton Local Food Hub pilot project
– Christine Johnson, NS research project “Activating Change Together for Community Food Security.”
The Townhouse will be providing a locally sourced lunch (and it’s free!), and we hope for lively discussions about increasing access to and production of local food in Antigonish Town & County!
Sarturday Night Live: The Urban Surf Kings!
Halifax’s veteran surf rock group are coming to town! These guys put on an amazing show… come check ’em out…
Mar 21, 9pm, $10 at the door
Canada’s East Coast instro-nuts, URBAN SURF KINGS, play surf music, 1960’s style. Think the beach blasts of Dick Dale, the leather jacket rumble of Link Wray, and the biker fuzz of B-movie heroes Davie Allan & the Arrows. It’s fun for the whole family!
URBAN SURF KINGS have 12 releases to date, including their November 2014 seven-inch ep, Penguin or Robot?. All of their previous CDs & 45s have charted on campus/community radio across Canada, and the US.
With a fan base that extends around the world (including North & South America, Europe, Asia & Australia), Urban Surf Kings may be the busiest surf band in Canada.
